The Botswana Information Technology Society (BITS) has renewed its call for the formal registration of ICT professionals in Botswana, citing the growing importance of the technology sector to the national economy.
Speaking at a recent stakeholder engagement, the BITS President emphasised that professional registration would protect the public, raise standards in the industry and position Botswana as a preferred destination for ICT investment.
‘Botswana’s digital economy is growing rapidly. We need a robust framework that ensures our ICT professionals are recognised, accountable and continuously developing their skills,’ the President said.
BITS has been engaging with government, industry and academia on a regulatory framework that would formally register qualified ICT practitioners — similar to models used for engineers, accountants and other professions in Botswana.
Members and stakeholders are encouraged to engage with the ICT Regulation consultation process. Visit the ICT Regulation section of this website or contact the BITS office for more information.
