Strategic Plan
BITS' roadmap for advancing ICT professionalism and supporting Botswana's digital transformation.
Strategic Priorities
BITS' strategic direction is guided by its Constitutional objectives, the needs of its members, and Botswana's national digital transformation agenda under Vision 2036. The Society's work focuses on the following strategic pillars:
ICT Professionalism & Standards
Promoting and enforcing professional standards, codes of conduct and ethical practice for ICT practitioners in Botswana. This includes the development and review of competency frameworks and professional registration frameworks.
Capacity Building & Skills Development
Equipping Botswana's ICT workforce with relevant skills through workshops, seminars, conferences, and partnerships with academic institutions — with a focus on emerging technologies such as AI and Cybersecurity.
Policy Advocacy & ICT Governance
Engaging government, industry, and regulators on ICT regulation, digital governance, and national ICT policy to ensure that the profession's voice is heard at all levels of decision-making.
Inclusion & Diversity
Running targeted programmes to empower youth and women in ICT, broadening participation in the profession and ensuring technology benefits all segments of Botswana's society.
Regional & International Engagement
Actively participating in continental ICT forums (including TICON Africa), pursuing IFIP membership, and building partnerships with regional ICT bodies to elevate Botswana's standing in the global ICT community.
Membership Growth & Engagement
Growing and diversifying BITS membership across all grades — from students to Fellows — and deepening member engagement through events, resources, and networking opportunities.
Formal Strategic Plan Document
A formal BITS Strategic Plan document is currently being developed by the Executive Council. When finalised, it will be made available for download on this page and shared with all members.
