Who We Are

The Botswana Information Technology Society — a professional body dedicated to advancing ICT in Botswana since 1994.

Our Identity

The Botswana Information Technology Society (BITS) is a non-profit voluntary professional body established for the purpose of carrying out objectives that develop, promote, and protect the Information Technology profession in Botswana. The Society is registered under the Societies Act of Botswana with the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs.

BITS brings together ICT professionals, academics, students, and industry stakeholders across Botswana — from the private sector and government to civil society and academia — united by a shared commitment to advancing technology and professional excellence.

Our History

BITS was formally registered on 28 November 1994, making it one of the longest-standing professional ICT bodies in Botswana. Since its founding, the Society has played a central role in shaping Botswana's technology landscape — establishing professional standards, engaging government on ICT policy, and building a community of practice for the nation's technology workforce.

Today, BITS has a growing and diverse membership of approximately 53 members comprising ICT professionals, educators, researchers, students, and industry practitioners. The Society continues to expand its reach and relevance as Botswana pursues its digital transformation goals under Vision 2036.
