the benefits of being a member of the Botswana Information Technology Society (BITS), which includes assistance in meeting IT standards, keeping up-to-date with IT developments, access to BITS publications, participation in professional activities, job marketability, interaction with IT professionals, international connections, government recognition, professional advice, professional affiliation, and interaction with peers through specialist interest groups and user interest groups.

Eligible Members

The Society accepts membership from: Graduates with IT-related qualifications that conform to the Society's education standards IT professionals Students pursuing IT-related qualifications that conform to the Society's education standards Corporate entities and institutions interested in IT Educational institutions that offer IT-related qualifications conforming to the Society's education standards Professional bodies with reciprocal arrangements Individuals interested in IT who are not qualified to practice under the Society's constitution.

Name Description
Fellow: The grade of fellow is awarded to qualified members who have attained at least ten years of IT related experience and who, in the opinion of the Society, have made significant contribution to advancement of information technology or to the objectives of the Society.
Member: The grade of member is awarded to qualified members who have attained at least eight yearsof IT related experience in the field of information technology.
Associate Member: The grade of associate member is awarded to qualified members who have attained at least three years of IT relevant experience in the field of information technology.
Graduate Member: The grade of graduate member is awarded to holders of qualifications which, in the opinion of the Society, conform to the educational standards but lack the necessary experience that would otherwise qualify them for the grade of Associate Member.
Student Member: The grade of student member is awarded to students reading for qualifications which, in the opinion of the Society, conform to the required educational standards.
Student Member: The grade of student member is awarded to students reading for qualifications which, in the opinion of the Society, conform to the required educational standards.
Corporate Member: The grade of corporate member is awarded to business organizations or associations or institutions with interest in information technology.
Institutional Affiliate: The grade of institutional affiliate is awarded to other professional bodies having reciprocal arrangements with the Society.
Individual Affiliate: The grade of individual affiliate is awarded to individuals with interest in information technology but lack the necessary qualifications and experience that will entitle them to qualify the for full member status.
